536 West Columbia Avenue brings a new custom residence to Telluride’s Historic Residential district, combining contemporary mountain living with an architectural approach that responds to the surrounding neighborhood. Designed by Dylan Henderson and associate architect Brian Flatley of SALT Architecture, the project includes a three-level primary residence and a detached garage with an accessory dwelling above, thoughtfully arranged on a 4,219-square-foot lot.
The main residence is designed with three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and a powder room, with the upper level dedicated to gathering and entertaining. A kitchen with a central island, living room with a fireplace, and separate bar and lounge area create a welcoming setting for daily life and time with guests. Decks extend the living spaces outdoors, while the detached accessory dwelling provides additional accommodation with its own bathroom and deck.
The exterior palette combines painted horizontal siding, reclaimed barnwood, stone veneer, and metal roofing. These materials give the home a layered character that connects to Telluride’s traditional building vocabulary while supporting a fresh residential design. The relationship between the primary home, outdoor spaces, and smaller secondary structure makes careful use of the property’s compact footprint.
For Proset Construction, the project brings together the coordination demands of a new build within an established mountain neighborhood. Below-grade construction, multiple structures, detailed exterior assemblies, and integrated heating and snowmelt systems require close attention across disciplines. At 536 West Columbia, that scope reflects Proset’s approach to custom residential construction: understanding the design as a whole, coordinating the details that make it work, and bringing architectural intent into focus through careful execution.
